Before the invention of the internet, safes were sold by professional Locksmith shops such as our own. Every reasonably sized town had a well established reputable shop staffed by people who knew their trade and could offer expert advice. The safe would be delivered, installed and looked after by this local company and the world turned happily on it's axis.

Now the situation is very different. Online shops are all the rage and everything seems to be about price. But are you really getting a bargain?

An online safe shop on the surface appears to be a specialist in their chosen field. Having done some research it becomes clear that many of the online safe shops have no real relevant industry experience. In fact, if you delve a bit deeper you discover that many of them have other online shops selling all sorts of other household goods.

Each shop appears to be industry specific, for example - washing machines or plasma televisions etc. The reality can be very different, you could even be dealing with a teenager working from their bedroom. They carry no stock, their product knowledge is based entirely on what they have read on the internet and they will never even see the safe that you order. In fact it's entirely possible that the person selling you your safe, has never even seen a safe in their life! They will simply take your order online and then order the safe from their supplier who will deliver it to you.

• It's so easy to click and buy a safe, but is it really suitable for your requirements?
